PHOTODYNAMIC THERAPY

• First, we apply a topical solution, Levulan, to the treatment area. Target cells absorb this photosensitizer to prime them for the light-based treatment.
• Next, the patented BLU-U® blue light activates the Levulan, which destroys the acne cells and shrinks and disables the sebaceous gland that produces excess skin oils.

The final result is clearer, smoother skin, reduced oil production, and refined pores.

PDT is often used when other acne treatments have failed or failed to produce substantial improvement. It is often used in combination with prescription medication. PDT kills the acne bacteria, in addition to reducing the size and activity of sebaceous glands. PDT also helps restore the skin’s integrity resulting in the overall improvement of the acne condition.

AK is a rough, dry, scaly patch that forms when skin is damaged by ultraviolet sun rays or indoor tanning beds. The scalp is especially vulnerable, especially in balding men. Sufferers usually have more than one area of AK on their skin. PDT is an effective treatment for minimally to moderately thick AKs on the face or scalp.
